what is counselling?
Counselling with Options Plus offers a safe and non-judgemental environment in which to explore issues of concern. A professional and non-biased counsellor creates an opportunity to examine thoughts, feelings and established behaviours and enables a client to unravel any fears, worries, anger or sadness that may be affecting his/her present relationships and life.
The neutral ambience of the session liberates a client from the restraints of close relationships and of being judged on past actions and thus sets him/her free to objectively examine options for a way forward. A good counsellor will not give advice, only assist a client to reach his/her own conclusions and provide support during a period of change.
what can we offer?
With nearly 50 years experience in the counselling field, we believe that each person is unique and deserves the chance of a fresh, individualistic approach to any issues raised. As such, our approach is eclectic and, as we are not hampered by working to any particular model, the opportunity for greater clarity and perception is increased. All our counsellors are experienced professionals whose main aim is to support and nurture a client towards a greater self-awareness and enable change where desired.
We offer sessions of fifty minutes on a regular basis with the same counsellor. The number and frequency of sessions can be negotiated with the counsellor to suit you. Most people opt for four to six weekly sessions initially, but this can be extended or adjusted as desired.
Our counsellors work to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy standards and ethics and receive regular, professional supervision. They also work closely within the ethos of Options, demonstrating a non-judgemental, supportive and committed approach.
how can counselling help you?
In order to answer this question, it might be necessary to ask yourself some questions:-
how does counselling work?
Our professional counsellors can help you explore any of the issues above and many more. Our counsellors can help you to understand your thoughts, feelings and actions. Greater self-awareness is the springboard for change and a counsellor can facilitate self-knowledge that, in turn, can pave the way to making adjustments and improvements in your life. At no time will you be given advice or told what to do, but you may be asked some probing questions about your feelings on a particular issue.
Our counsellors will always treat you with respect and will not urge you to pursue an issue unless you indicate that you are happy to do so. A non-judgemental, nurturing and encouraging approach is used by our counsellors in accordance with the standards and ethics of the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling.
