Taking a proactive approach to employees' wellbeing

Taking a proactive approach to employees' wellbeing
Businesses today are beset by increasing demands to have the correct policy and procedures for health, safety and welfare in place, to ensure that they are known and adhered to by all staff and to know what to do when and how if there appears to be a breach of any such a policy.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires employers to secure the health (including mental health), safety and welfare of employees whilst at work. Equally, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to assess the risk of stress-related ill health arising from work activities and to take measures to control the identified risk. The Health and Safety Executive assesses stress as part of their workplace inspections.

It is estimated that 13.5 million working days are lost each year through stress, anxiety and depression alone.  Whilst alcohol is estimated to cause 35% of all absences from work accounting for about 8 to 14 million lost working days in the UK each year.
